This veil is named in honour of St Monica, an early Christian saint. Through her unceasing prayers and unfailing example of how to live a Christ-like life, St. Monica brought about the conversion of both her husband, Patricius, and her son, Augustine, one of the greatest Doctors of the Church. Her quote “ Nothing is far from God” reflects her unwavering belief in God's presence and power.
St. Monica is the patron saint of married women and mothers. Her Feast Day is August 27.
